hay... walang jeep na Washington-BelAir-MRT dun sa EDSA kaya ang beauty ko naglakad mula EDSA to Makati Ave.... hay OK lang naman sa akin ang maglakad ng matagal hehe kung pwede nga lang sana yung with out hills ang shoes.... whew!

Kontra Kartel supports nationwide transport strike on Thursday

Kontra Kartel, a nationwide broad alliance of concerned groups and individuals against oil price increases and the oil deregulation law, fully supports the transportation sector's decision to stage a nationwide transport strike on Thursday, November 25.

"The Arroyo administration should be reminded that social unrest as manifested by the series of transport strikes in 1996 and 1997 forced the Supreme Court to declare unconstitutional the first oil deregulation law," said Prof. Danilo Arao, national spokesperson of Kontra Kartel.

Arao said that based on consultations with various chapters of Kontra Kartel, there are national and local officials who are alarmed by unabated oil price hikes and the failure of the oil deregulation law to ensure lower prices and better services. "The current trend of price increases could exacerbate the already unstable political and economic situation."

According to Kontra Kartel, the transport strike is just a prelude to intensified protest actions due to prevailing economic hardships of the people. "Since its imposition in 1996, deregulation of the downstream oil industry has been detrimental to the lives of the marginalized sectors of society. However, the Arroyo administration prefers to continue the deregulated regime by giving a false illusion that the increased prices of petroleum products are just temporary birth pangs."

"Apparently, the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo prefers to kowtow to the interests of the transnational oil companies instead of look after the welfare of the people she has vowed to serve," Kontra Kartel stressed. The broad alliance demands the repeal of Republic Act No. 8479 (Downstream Oil Deregulation Act of 1998) and the nationalization of the oil industry.
